DEPR Community | The 2nd Annual Red Pump/Red Tie Affair.

The Red Pump Project is an initiative to improve the awareness about the impact of HIV/AIDS on women and girls. Yes, HIV/AIDS affects both men and women as well as the young and mature BUT did you know out of the 1.1 million people living with HIV/AIDS that almost 280,00 of those people are women and that the largest number of HIV/AIDS diagnosis for women is aged 15-39. This makes HIV/AIDS the 5th leading death among women between the ages of 25-44.

In 2005, African-American and Latina women accounted for 82% of the estimated total of HIV/AIDS diagnosis and represented 24% of of all the US women diagnosed combined. In 2006, teen girls aged 13-19 represented 39% of reported AIDS cases meanwhile 69% were African-American and 19% Latina.
